Q: Where can I find evidence demonstrating the impact of IAQ on student health and academic performance?

A: EPA’s NEW IAQ and Student Performance Web site.

U.S. EPA IAQ Tools for Schools Program’s newest resource, the IAQ and Student Performance Web site, offers the latest scientific evidence demonstrating the relationship of IAQ to key factors that influence student health and performance. Use the IAQ and Student Performance Web site to learn how IAQ impacts student health and performance, so that you can make the case for comprehensive IAQ management in your schools.

The Evidence Exists
Scientific evidence has long demonstrated an association between poor IAQ and respiratory health effects, including asthma. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, asthma is one of the leading causes of school absenteeism. In addition, research is demonstrating the relationship between IAQ and human performance and productivity. Studies show that improved IAQ increases productivity and improves performance on mental tasks, such as concentration and memory, in both adults and children.

The Time is Now
The student success starts from the ground up. By implementing a comprehensive IAQ management program, you can create school environments and help students reach their full potential. The IAQ Tools for Schools Program has helped thousands of school districts nationwide successfully implement effective, sustainable IAQ management programs. The IAQ and Student Performance Web site gives you the evidence base you need to secure buy-in so you can start comprehensively managing your school environments for improved student health and performance.
