SCHOOL HISTORY                                                                                            It all began in 1929

Lake Zurich High School (100 Church Street) first opened its doors to students in 1929 as Ela-Vernon HS, serving Ela and Vernon Townships in Lake County, Illinois.

  • In 2003, LZ Middle School North moved from 100 Church Street to 95 Hubbard Lane.  100 Church Street was renamed the Annex and became a district storage facility.
  • In 2004 architects they had hired informed District officials that the Annex needed a new roof, had bad ceiling tiles, corroded plumbing and antiquated mechanical and electrical infrastructure. “Daily Herald, June 4, 2004.”
  • In August 2007, May Whitney flooded, asbestos was disturbed and toxic mold was found.  District officials determined the school to be uninhabitable and should be permanently closed.
  • In September, 2007, after showing many signs of water leakage in ceiling tiles, windows and on carpeting, the Annex was reopened, renamed and declared safe for students.
  • Since September 2007, some parents and more recently janitors contend this school also has mold problems.  A janitor described “green and yellow mold” in ceiling tiles when he spoke to a panel of state lawmakers.  Also speaking to the panel, was a parent who stated “Leaky, damp buildings lead to poor indoor air quality that can lead to poor health.”
